Revel Canyon Half Marathon. 13.1 miles, 2:15 time,
I rode in Lynda’s van from Eagle Rock with Amy, Alvin, Kim, Joel, Luis, and Steve. We met at 4:30am, and then picked up a couple more in Duarte. Parking was at Citrus College. Boarded a nice bus to Cogwell Dam (West Fork). It was freezing cold. Group picture looked like space hobos. We got there about an hour before 7am start. Cold and smelly (musta been a port-o-potty vent). The space blankets and gloves were a must have. They had a bag drop off so that was perfect.
The start was really uneventful. No Star Bangles Banner. No gun start. People just started running. I asked around ‘Are we going now?’ I started Anyway, there is about 4-6 up hills with a net downhill. It’s a tough course. By Mile 2, the sun had come up and warmed the air. The weather was perfect.
Mile 1-5 I felt slow but okay. I was tentative about my left foot. Last weeks preview run had pain in the plantar fasciitis. Well today the pain flared up around mile 5. So, most of the race was painful. My right leg was compensating for the weak left side. I trudged along.
I turned up the music to drown out the pain. Mile 6-10 is a consistent downhill. Mile 11-13 are flat to the finish. The end of the course was a little different from last year the course ended on a gradual uphill around the college. At 12.75 miles I was wondering where the heck the finish was. I knew my Garmin had the miles close to their mile markers but I did see the finish line or hear anybody until the final turn.
My friends were all at the end. Lynda was so happy to destroy me by 15 minutes. She was ecstatic. Amy placed 3rd in her age group. Alvin and Dino had PRs. We finished off the morning with pancakes!
Zero Dark Thirty At Bus.
A bunch of Space Hobos waiting at the start
Mile 2, the sun was shining and it was perfect running weather.
Happy finishers.
Pancake ending.
