74.1 miles, 6:10:38 moving time, 8,297 ft elevation, 245 suffer score
We rode the Mulholland Challenge on Saturday, with perfect, PERFECT weather. The ride is a doozy. I wasn’t prepared this year for the full enchilada, so I opted out of the full 106 miles and finished the 74 miles option. My training has been trimmed back since last year, and mainly focused on the run for the LA Marathon. Last year, I completed the King of the Mountain Series. That was pretty epic. Anyway, the PTC crew rode out in Lynda’s sprinter van. We met a couple more friends at the event. This is an incredibly difficult ride. There are climbs and climbs and climbs. I did 8,297 ft of climbing, while the rest of the crew did 13,700+ ft of climbing. The route takes you along Mulholland Hwy throughout the day. It started with Topanga Canyon, then Stunt Canyon, then Rock Store, and Encinal Canyon. I headed back at the Fire Station SAG at the Top of Decker. The rest went on to Deer Creek, Yerba Buena, Decker. We refueled at Islands Restaurant with monster burgers and beers. We also celebrated Steve and Bob’s birthdays! Here’s to aging up!.
