Ironman Louisville – Next Journey

The next Journey begins. The road to Ironman Louisville begins today. I signed up for my second Ironman race today. My friends in the Pasadena Triathlon Club are joining me for this one too. Lynda, GT, Danny. Why do another one? Good question. Because I’m not a One-and-Done. Also, I bought a great TT bike that needs to be tested, my Felt IA 10 TT . This time around I’m also working with Coach Scott in Volt MultiSport. I’m nervous about the long course again. But, it will be different the second time around. I picked IM Louisville because my summer was unpredictable, since my daughter will be moving away to college at some point during the summer. Since IM Louisville is in October, I’ll be clear. The course description is below. River swim in Ohio River. Bike is rollers on 2 loop course. Run is flat and rollers around Churchill Downs, where they run the Kentucky Derby; it’s also a two loop course. The Finish is at Fourth Street Live! which is an outdoor, covered high-energy finish line.

Swim: “The 2.4-mile swim course is a unique, point-to-point swim set in a rolling start fashion (athlete position is first-come, first-serve). Athletes will jump off the dock adjacent to Tumbleweed Tex Mex Grill & Margarita Bar and finishes at the wharf just west of the Great Lawn. The point-to-point swim begins in the protected waters behind Towhead Island before athletes enter the Ohio River’s main channel and swim downstream toward the finish at the wharf by Joe’s Crab Shack, just past The Great Lawn. The swim course will close two hours and 20 minutes after the final athlete enters the water (projected to be by 8:10 AM) and water temperature will hover in the mid-60s F.”

Bike: “The 112 mile bike course takes athletes outside of Louisville toward Oldham and Henry counties and includes a two-loop section through the historic town of LaGrange. Athletes will be challenged with plenty of rolling hills.”

Run: “The 26.2 mile run is primarily flat and passes many of Louisville’s signature sites including the University of Louisville campus and Churchill Downs. Run course stations are located every mile. The run finishes at Fourth Street Live! in downtown Louisville.”
