Ride Report – Cool Breeze Hilly Century

107 miles, 7:31 moving time, 5,380 ft

4:50a: Meet up at Lynda’s. Ride to Ventura Museum.

6:00a: Land in Ventura. Ride bikes to registration. Sign in and pick up Bib #. For Sag and Snacks. Bought a $15 t-shirt cool mint color

Mile 0: 7:00a: START RIDE with PTC crew. Richard, Larry, Rob, Kirk, Raoul, Lynda, Bill, Joe, Trevor, John, Bert, Gary, Rick, Vicky, David, Eric, Alvin, San.

Mile 19.8: Nice bike trails inland up to Lake Casitas. Peak. Wonderful descent

Mile 25: A fork in the road. Some chose wisely and went straight and proceeded to the First Rest Stop. Some chose unwisely and took the right turn and skipped the rest stop. Rest Stop #1. By the Sea. On a Bluff, you can see forever along the coast. Sag and snacks. We fueled up and met some of the fast guys. Overall, the rest stops were great for us. We re-grouped with our whole club each time.

Mile 31: Fast flats through the farmland in Carpenteria and Summerland.

Mile 42: Rest #2. Snacks, potty, water. Every stop was great to catch up to our friends again. Turned up and started climbing Montecito. Oh, the rich live nicely here. Relaxed mansions nestled in the oak trees. Passed Westmont College.

Mile 46-50: My Favorite Part: Ride along the East Mountain and West Mountain Drive. Recently repaved after the fires and floods. It’s gorgeous views of the water and town below. Snaking in and out through the trees. It is the best. Ride along Cathedral Oaks over the top of Santa Barbara.

Mile 60: Rest #3. Lunch at Park. San was on the Regular Century and luckily met up with us there. He joined us for the rest of the ride back. Vicky got her flat fixed up at SAG at the stop. Lunch was good. Sandwiches, fresh fruit, water. No cokes. I needed a coke. Followed some bike paths along Obern Trail. Las Palms, Marina Drive, Cliff Dr.

Mile 72: Shoreline Drive along the water front in Santa Barbara. Lots of people out at the beach. Perfect day for a beach ride.

Mile 83: We skipped Rest #4. Same spot as Rest #2. We switched it up and stopped at the First Gas Station for a Coke. Rested a bit too. I was tiring big time. Hoping the caffeine and sugar bomb will carry me to Rest #5.

Mile 92. Last little climbs to get to the last Rest Stop #5 (same spot as #1, on the Sea Cliff). This is the famous and wonderful POPSICLE STOP! Life lesson: the second popsicle is way better than the first popsicle. San can back me up on that one.

Mile 97: I was chugging along with San and Larry. We passed a bunch of our crew with Vicky who had flat. A half mile later, Larry had a flat. SAG guy stopped and helped Vicky and then helped us. We fixed the flat twice to no avail. Larry chose to hop in the SAG car and meet us at the end. San was a champ and I followed him back to the Ventura Museum.

Mile 107: FINISHED! Richard bot me a beer! thanks! Larry was there, he was happy to get back. We saw Vicky and Rick. I quickly rode back to Lynda’s van and changed my cloths. We drove to Oxnard Yardhouse for Burgers and Drinks. Richard stopped by with is wife and baby girl. Great ride today.
