On a perfect Central Coast morning, we toured Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. My daughter and I went to the Business College Specialty Tour and my son and wife went to the Engineering College Tour. The business college was great. The tour was led by three well-spoken, articulate, success-driven, third year. One young man is an accounting and already completed his senior project with an investment banking friend in NY. All three were very inspiring. The teaching rooms are great. Set up in a round, or in groups with PCs. The computer lab looks like an Apple Store. They feature their Upside down curriculum and Learning by Doing. Cal Poly SLO pushes the kids into their majors right way and get them involved with career specific activities: Study aboard, internships, community projects. The Engineering Tour went through many of the labs and tech spaces. The main campus tour was great too. Agro and Architecture are also nationally recognized programs. I think SLO is just right. 20,000 undergrads: Not too big, not too small. SLO: Not to far, not too close (to home). Not big city, not in the middle of nowhere. City is nice, lots of stuff there and not scary. Pismo Beach is very close too. Go Mustangs!
