Some of our Club rehearsed for the American Triple T Race, coming up in June. Of the 4 races that weekend, there is a pair of Olympic Triathlons. Last weekend, we practiced a Double Olympic. Starting at 6:30am in the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center for 1600 yds (1.5k), then bundled up for a 25 mi (40k) bike, and a 10k (6 miles) run. On a cloudy, misty, then actually raining morning, the swim went fine. The bike was a mess. Wet roads and dirty spray around the hills of Pasadena. My bike was filthy, my back was mud, and my socks were two-toned black / white. It wasn’t freezing cold, but it did remind me of Ironman Mont Tremblant, which was the last time I rode in the rain. It’s true that riding in all conditions prepares you for all race conditions, so there’s your silver lining. I had family stuff and went home for a nice hot shower after the 1st Olympic was done. After a lunch break, the second Olympic was BIKE – SWIM -RUN. Wacky order. I heard the rain stopped and the conditions lightened up.
