PTC met at the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center. (ARTIC). We threw a day bag into the U-haul and rode south along the Santa Ana River Trail. Homeless encampments lined the bike path for several miles. The B Group had a long train riding down at a comfortable pace; awesome. It was great to hear Bryan and Lynda spar all the way down. The bike path ended at Pacific Coast Highway PCH in Newport Beach. We regrouped for a short stop. We rode along Balboa Island and crossed the Ferry. The ride along Newport Beach and Laguna Beach was breathtaking. Sparkling beaches. Steep rollers through Dana Point until a coffee stop, where I dropped off my vest and sleeves at the U-haul. The B Group took a Scenic detour through Dana Point, while A Group went straight. We rode along the sand and then the bike path through San Juan Capistrano. The bike route through San Clemente is rolling through residential neighborhoods with lots of turns. The ride through San Onofre is flat and straight along the beach campgrounds. A Group had 5 flats. We caught up and passed them a couple times. We checked in at the Marine Base Camp Pendleton and rode through the base. High clouds cooled us off. We regrouped at the gas station in Oceanside. The ride through Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, and Solana Beach is pretty straight forward. Rollers along the beach and through town. Clouds were rolling in and it cooled off a lot. At Pizza Port, We met the U-haul and dropped off our bikes and changed our clothes. We feasted on pizza and beer and frozen yogurt. Barry and Johnna and Deanna met us at Pizza Port! The Amtrak train was delayed about 45 minutes. So we waited around with more snacks and beer and triathlon chat.

Thanks to Lynda for making all the arrangements! Thanks to Yuri and Lucas who spent the day following us in the U-Haul!
