Irene and I went on an culinary adventure. We read about Jonathan Gold’s LA Times 100 Best LA restaurants. Then, we also heard that LA Dine Week had special tasting menus. So, went out for the best couple dinners that we ever had. Part 1: Cut by Wolfgang Puck. The restaurant is actually in the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, made world famous by 1990’s Pretty Woman. It’s at Wilshire and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Yeah, so it’s kinda overkill on the glitz.
We both got the Dine LA Week Fixed menu. I upgraded to the American Wagyu. I didn’t know that was a thing. The waiter brought out a huge platter with giant cuts of meat to demonstrate Rib Eye, Japanese Wagyu (lots and lots of marbling), American Wagyu (darker meat with less marbling), and pork chop (very lean). I also got the wine pairing. The white wine with the salad was the best one. The red wine with the meat was a little flat as left something to be desired. The dessert was amazing. I can’t figure out how they made it. The chocolate was layered with passionfruit caramel and crunchy bottom, coated in chocolate. It was great. After dinner, we walked up and down Rodeo Drive, for kicks. The glitz is crazy. It reminded us that, when we were first married in 1997, Irene worked in an optometry office in Beverly Hills, a couple blocks away.
