In preparation for Ironman season, the club headed down to Long Beach for a Race Rehearsal. It’s a great place to stage a swim, a bike ride, and a run. We met at Belmont Shores Beach. It was great to meet a few new members and other that were prepping for their first 70.3. Well done everyone!

Swim. 2000 yds. Belmont Shore.
Since there was a bunch of rain this week, the water situation was iffy. We checked out the water quality sign and got the green light. No sense in getting sick a couple weeks before Oceanside 70.3. Scott gathered the troops and gave us the lay of the land, er water. We swam along the buoys for 1000 yds, and flipped it. The water was COLD (55 -60F). I tried out my new thermal hood from Roka. It worked well. My face and toes were kinda numb during the first 300 yds, then it was set.
Bike. 40 miles.
Some changed into a dry bike kit. Lynda pointed out the group toward the River trail, but forgot to tell everyone no drafting and pretend it’s race rules. So we set out and rode along 2nd St. to San Gabriel River Trail and rode northbound for 20 miles, and flipped it. Gregg was in race mode, but a bunch of us were draft behind him. Oops. Sorry not sorry. We saw a bunch of people running on a 5 or 10k event. Then we also saw cyclers on the Tour de Sewer. Hmmm. The river trail has some adventurous underpasses. The last one we code named ‘Tunnel of Death’ which is very dark, very steep, with hungry gutters on both sides. The group made it back. The return trip had noticeable head winds. But it was such a beautiful day.
Run. 8 miles along the beach.
The run was along the running path on the beach. Bright, sunny with cool breeze. Perfect day.
More pics.
