Ride Report – Back Side of GMR

54.26 miles, 4:08 moving time, 4,449 ft elevation gain.

PTC began building bike training volume and climb capacity, preparing the Club for Solvang Double Metric Century (125 miles, 5400 ft climbing) on March 20 and Mulholland Challenge (105 miles, 12,000 ft climbing) on April 10. Sign up now and join the fun. Anyway, Club met at Sierra Madre, rolled down to Encanto Park and picked up a few more riders. Then we rode up Azusa Canyon, to the end of the San Gabriel River Trail and then hopped on the Azusa Canyon (Hwy 39). I stopped at the Eagle Tree. There was a nest with Mommy Eagle and two babies. Hard to see in the pic. Left Tree, half way down is the next. Right tree, near the top, you can see the white head of the Mommy Eagle. Weather was cool and crisp, sunny. It was very cool in the shaded sections, and very crisp on the descents. Regroup at the cafe, which was closed. Climb up the back side was hard, but with the cooler weather, more tolerable. There was a lot of cyclists on the road today. Everyone was glad to riding the great SoCal February. Regroup at the Crest along the end of the rock wall, I’m looking at you James, Gregg, Mike. The descent was thrilling, fast, and hair-pin turvy. Wahoo. Great ride today. Looking forward to more climbing in the coming weeks.
