My training plan called for a bike race rehearsal. I hit the River Trails. Starting at Encanto Park at the beginning of the San Gabriel River Trail, I rode to Whittier and connected with the Rio Hondo River Trail and merged with the Los Angeles River Trail.
My friend Rob met me at the Park. My alarm clock failed me, but Rob was a trooper and waited for me.
Race rehearsal is a time to try out gear and nutrition under simulated race conditions and go for the full 56 miles. Today’s weather was cool and overcast. I opted out of the Tri top cuz I would have froze. I mainly wanted to work on power reading.
Averages: 159 W power, 80 cadence , 18.2 mph, 127 bpm heart rate.
The ride was fine. Rob motored ahead I saw him about a mile ahead of me at the turn around point. It’s interesting to do these race rehearsals at the same location from year to year. I remember my first race rehearsal with Lynda before Wildflower Long, which was my first half ironman distance. I was pooped at the 40 mile mark. Somewhere at the end of the Rio Hondo, before the dam. Now I feel pretty good even at the end.
