Sunday Swim Report – Belmont Shore. 2018 Kickoff.

2100 yds, 43 minutes

On a clear, warm, sunny morning, Todd led the first Sunday Swim of 2018. We met at Belmont Shore in Long Beach 9am. Also known as Alamitos Bay. The sign said 61-66F water temp. It was perfect. Not too hot with wetsuit, not too cold. [I had run back to Pasadena for church and family stuff, so I actually came early and swim at 7:30am. I finished up and the rest of the crew arrived.] Scott is a new member and needed open water swimming practice. He’s getting ready for SuperFrog in Sept down in SD. Cali went for the full loop around Naples Island, see map in pic below.

Don’t miss out on the Sunday Swims. Todd is leading the swims each week. We cycle through Belmont, Santa Monica Tower 26, Corona del Mar Beach in Newport Beach, and Zuma in Malibu. All have different water settings and siting opportunities. Great times. Thanks, Todd!

There were lots of swimmers out today. I met a group of Filipino triathletes that recognized me from the film, The Journey, which was shot here at Belmont Shores. Anyway, the guys were very encouraged by the movie and they said I should definitely shoot a sequel.

I used the Xterra floatie. It’s pretty good. there is a water tight side which kept my iPhone high and dry. I took pictures half way through! and then the other side blows up. It’s great for visibility. Dragon boats, scullers, and boaters can all see you swimming along. My ROKA wetsuit is still awesome.

Scott, Mark, Scott, Todd, Michel. Joe. Cali.
