Today was a big ride with PTC. Hills and climbing in the Santa Monica Mountains, west of Los Angeles. Much of the route today will be part of the Mulholland Challenge, coming up in a few weeks. So this is a preview and training ride.
Summary: 49.8 miles, 4:11:38 moving time, 5,702 elevation.
We started at a park at Malibu Canyon and Pacific Coast Highway. You can see the Pepperdine spire in the background. It was beautiful day. I took a heavy coat; didn’t need it.
Me, Luis, Elizabeth, Phil (got it!), Steve, Lynda, Paul, and Michel.
We headed northwest on PCH. Million dollar houses, beaches, sand. There’s a good shoulder for riding even with fast traffic.
We passed by Latigo Canyon. This is another great hill to climb, just not on the menu today.
Passed Zuma Beach
We turned up Decker Canyon.
Here’s Michel. We all peeled off layers. Decker is 10-15% for 1 mile, then 8-10% for another 4 miles.
View looking back down 12% Decker towards the water.
More climbing to get to Firestation.
Turned to Encinal and climbed more.
Then down by Rock Store.
Rollers over to Stunt Canyon. Climb is 8-12% for miles.
Views from the top.
Huge Fast descent.
Celebrating finishing a great ride. Dan’s Super Sub in the Valley.
