2016 Stage 2 will start in my home town of South Pasadena. Announcement here.
That’s a Monday morning, so not sure how long I can hang out at the event before actually going to work.

Route Information: May 16, 2016 – Stage 2 Start
The City of South Pasadena is a charming community, situated only six miles from downtown Los Angeles. This “City of Trees” is known for its stunning and historic homes, unique small businesses, and top quality schools. South Pasadena’s diverse population of about 25,000 occupies a mere 3.44 square miles of flatlands and hillsides on the west side of the San Gabriel Valley. The small town atmosphere makes South Pasadena one of California’s most desirable locations.
In 2014, Sunset Magazine named South Pasadena one of the best places to live in the western United States. It’s no wonder, with South Pasadena boasting more than 100 acres of parks and playgrounds which blanket its landscape and more than 21,000 trees adorn its streets. The quiet, historic character of its attractive neighborhoods is a testament to the preservationist efforts of residents in protecting both its architectural and natural beauty. The City enjoys a low crime rate and the benefits of a close-knit, participation-oriented community.
South Pasadena is more than a bedroom community with a vibrant and historic downtown community active with everything from a large business district to a thriving artistic community. Local galleries, shops, and community organizations join forces to hold a quarterly Arts Crawl, in which residents stroll along Mission Street to check out various types of art. The city partners with the Chamber of Commerce to bring unique opportunities to the area, including the Farmers’ Market. The City also has community events such as the 4th of July parade, participation in the Rose Parade and concerts in the park. From great restaurants to quaint coffee shops to annual festivals, there is so much to see and do.
South Pasadena is proud to have been recognized as the one of the most walkable communities in the San Gabriel Valley; named a “walkers paradise” by Walkingscore.com. This allows for easy access throughout much of the City. The City also takes great pride in its multi-modal opportunities; the city is bikeable and accessible by transit including the South Pasadena Metro Gold Line Station in the heart of the City’s downtown area.
The City continues to be on the forefront of environmental issues, the city features the first zero- emission AGZA Green Zone municipal park in the United States! The City continues to be a leader in water-reduction during the drought, provides variety of classes to assist residents in reducing water consumption and reducing its own usage by replacing medians with drought- tolerant landscaping and improving the irrigation at City parks. The City of South Pasadena has also achieved Gold-level status for energy usage through Southern California Edison and San Gabriel Valley Energy Wise Partnership.
All of this combines to create a unique, beautiful and innovative city. The city continues to move forward bring new businesses, developments and housing opportunities all while maintaining its small-town charm and characteristics. Whether it’s to try a new restaurant, shop at a local business, appreciate the beautiful and historic scenery, or a great enjoy Farmers’ Market, South Pasadena has it all.
