Ride Report – Long Beach Big Loop

65.30 miles, 3:53 moving time, 1,227 ft ascent

Gregg, Eric, Gary, Bert, Raoul, David, Julian, Rob, Rick, Alvin, Ari, Max, Mike O, Carrie, Maria, Daniel, SueJoe

Mile 0: Club started at the Arcadia 3-hole Golf at the beginning of the Rio Hondo River Trail.

Mile 7: Rio Hondo Trail to the Lower Rio Hondo Trail. Crossing over San Gabriel Blvd. Some folks turned right instead of left. Their route view didn’t show mile markers one the Loop. So, they clockwise. They figured it out and passed us later.

Mile 15: Bikeway crosses over the channel on big metal bridge. Southbound trip had high cloud cover to keep the heat off but some head winds. Great day for a ride. Several bunches of riders took wrong turns and ended up passing us slow movers a couple times. I think they took an earlier bridge. They figured it out and passed us later.

Mile 17: The Rio Hondo joins the Los Angeles River Trail at Imperial Hwy.

Mile 29: Once we reached the usual Starbucks, we reloaded and refreshed. Instead of returning up the same route, we took Ocean Blvd south east through Long Beach and then turned down to the beach path. Sun had broken through and we had a nice beachy ride. Not too crowded, and only one dreaded inline skater.

Mile 36: We picked up the beginning of the San Gabriel River Trail. Max had a face to face encounter with a gate, but shook it off and finished the ride with Rick. Tailwinds were in our favor all the way back.

Mile 54: Tunnel of death. Took a snack break.

Mile 57: A bunch of club mates regrouped at the top of the dam at the end of our time on the San Gabriel River Trail. We rode back over to the Rio Hondo and up.

Mile 63: Tacos, enchiladas, beers at Cabrera’s, across the street from the Golf.

Wahoo. Great ride.
